About 10 years ago I retired as a Psychotherapist. Shortly thereafter I entered my first juried show at the Art League of Bonita Springs, where I was thrilled to win First Place in Photography. What an auspicious beginning!
Since then, I have had the good fortune to do well in many juried exhibitions and have evolved and grown in my ability to see and capture beauty that goes beyond the obvious. I am interested in capturing the impact that life has on things which give them ‘character’ and their own uniqueness.
As I am growing and maturing, I now appreciate that which is different and more unconventional. I have discovered that there is a special beauty in weathering that both people and things acquire thru years of wear and tear. We both develop a beautiful patina that isn’t available to the new. This patina reflects a character that took time to create.
My work took a significant turn several years ago when it started to become more abstract. This began with the ‘Lichen’ series which was of lichen growing on the trunks of palm trees. That was followed by the ‘Rusty Rorschach’ series of a beat up dumpster which was destroyed two weeks later. People report enjoying seeing what they can find in the images, just like in taking the Rorschach test. Next came the ‘Bin Around’ series of trash bins found at a flea market, which have wonderful texture. Most recently I find myself interested in stencil work which show the ‘Hand of Man’ and have imperfections, which are in contrast to the more uptight and boring mass produced signs we see all around us. It is such an exciting process to see what will come next!
Thank you for your interest in my work!
